La Crosse Police Investigate Hate Crime

On February 6, the La Crosse Police Department responded to a vandalism complaint on the city’s South Side. Officers found a racist message left in graffiti on the side of a business property owned by a resident.

The La Crosse Police Department is investigating this hate crime and searching for the suspect(s). Investigators need the public’s help and remind the community that tips can be reported anonymously and may be eligible for a cash reward.

La Crosse Police will pursue enhanced penalties for hate crimes as allowed under Wisconsin law and refer the case to the La Crosse County District Attorney’s office for prosecution.

The La Crosse Police Department will not tolerate hate crimes, racism or any other cowardly act meant to alienate a member of our community. We are a diverse city with a history of acceptance. We will not allow that to change.

“This incident is not a reflection of our community, but rather a reflection of a hate-filled person,” said La Crosse Police Chief Ron Tischer.

Tips can anonymously be provided to the La Crosse Area Crime Stoppers at 608-784-TIPS (8477) or online at www.lacrossecrimestoppers.com. You can also download the Crime Stoppers App “P3” to submit a tip via your phone.
