Early this morning, members of the La Crosse and Onalaska Police Departments joined other law enforcement agencies and community members for our local leg of the 28th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to help raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Wisconsin.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run was first established by the law enforcement community as a way to help support Special Olympics in communities across the nation. After participating in various fundraising events throughout the year, such as the Polar Plunge and Tip-A-Cop, law enforcement members complete the Torch Run Final Leg every June to help celebrate the beginning of the Special Olympics State Summer Games.
Local area participants rode bikes or ran along an 8.5 mile route and brought the Flame of Hope to the kick-off ceremony held at Kwik Trip off Highway 16 in Onalaska.
The La Crosse Police Department is honored to participate, and we wish all of the Special Olympics athletes the best of luck at this weekend’s State Summer Games!
