On Tuesday, August 4th at 1:57PM, La Crosse Police received a report of an accident and a subject physically attacking citizens near the 400 block of Cameron Street. As La Crosse Police Officer Mark Rosenmeier arrived on scene, the subject suddenly charged Officer Rosenmeier who was still in his marked police vehicle. The subject jumped on the hood of the squad, deliberately pounded his head into the windshield, and then began punching the windshield with his fists.
Officer Rosenmeier exited his vehicle and engaged the suspect who came at him with clenched fists. Officer Rosenmeier used his Electronic Control Device (TASER) to try to take physical control of the subject. The subject continued to advance and attacked Officer Rosenmeier who then used pepper spray on the subject. Additional Officers arrived on scene and the suspect was restrained and taken into custody.
Officer Rosenmeier and the suspect were both transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for injuries sustained during this incident. Officer Rosenmeier was treated for minor injuries, was released from the hospital, and has since returned to duty at the La Crosse Police Department.
The subject, Jacob J. Olsen (DOB 10/31/1992), of 416 Austin St. in Sparta, Wisconsin, was later transported to the La Crosse County Jail and is being held on the following charges pending his court appearance: Battery to a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Battery, Criminal Damage to Property, Disorderly Conduct, 2nd Offense Operating while Intoxicated, and Probation Violation.
