On Thursday, August 20, 2015, La Crosse Police Officers Frank Racich, Dustin Darling, and Trenton Bowe responded to a house on the 1100 block of State Street for a welfare check. A caller reported that her friend wasn’t answering the door and had a history of depression.
The Officers were on the scene in less than one minute. They entered an upstairs apartment and found the woman unresponsive on the floor without signs of life. Officer Racich immediately began life-saving measures and, on the 15th chest compression, felt a pulse. Tri-State paramedics and first responders transported her to a local hospital, where she remains for observation.
The woman, who is 17 weeks pregnant, was under the influence of alcohol. Her unborn child appears to be in good condition.
La Crosse Police Chief Ron Tischer will recommend that the Officers receive life-saving awards.
Well done Officer Racich! Because of you this woman now has the opportunity to do right for her unborn child. Had you not arrived so quickly and been so well trained two people would have lost their lives. That is something to be extremely proud of. You are a blessing to that family. Keep up the good work! You are appreciated!
And this instance is only one manifestation of the good character of our area wide police forces. They do their duty firmly but in a caring manner whenever possible. Let no one compare them with some of the abuse of power we are seeing so much of on the internet now.
Great job officers! Thank you for the work you do!

People should always look at the good all the officers do no matter the situation, that could of been two lives gone.To many negative words about cops, Hey there here to help!!! Wake up people, they are the good guys!
Salute to all three
Good job gentlemen!! Police are not the enemy!! We need more stories like this all I’ve been seeing is negativitey towards officers lately. Great job guys!!
I have utmost concern and sympathy. I had a horrible time with my first pregnancy and was hospitalized for a time during it due to undiagnosed depression and anxiety. I didn’t turn to alcohol but I am sad for the mental state she must be in. I don’t condone her choice to drink but can understand that people do bad things out of fear and desperation.
I hope she’s getting the help that she obviously needs.
Kudos to these officers who understand the meaning of “protect and serve”.

La Crosse’s police are all top notch – congratulations on a job well done!!!
Nice to read something positive about the police. Why doesn’t something like this make the national news? The news media is quick to report things that show the police in a less than favorable light, but don’t seem to care about the positive things that the police do. I would love for the news media to report the news instead of sell the news.
Wow! So great ! We had great officers in our city. Way to go guys!
Wow great job .
OUTSTANDING WORK MEN! I am proud of our La Crosse Police Dept.
