Today, 03/09/2017, the La Crosse Police Department was notified by the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Nevada that they had recovered the body of Thomas A. Olsen, DOB: 01/31/1964, from Lake Mead.
On 03/07/2017, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area Park Rangers located an abandoned vehicle in the Sunset View Scenic overlook (https://goo.gl/maps/MnyktvBfBC82) within Lake Mead National Recreation Area. This vehicle was legally parked and appeared it had been there for several days. An investigation was conducted it was determined the vehicle was rented by Thomas A. Olsen of La Crosse, WI. The Lake Mead National Recreation Park Rangers were aware that Thomas was a missing person. They looked through the vehicle and located some personal items of Thomas’s, but not Thomas himself.
On 03/08/2017, The Lake Mead National Recreation Area Park Rangers, Nevada Department of Wildlife K-9 units and Red Rock Search and Rescue teams conducted an extensive land and water search for Thomas.
On 03/09/2017, the search continued and at 10 a.m. (PST), the searching parties located a body matching the description of Thomas A. Olsen 15 feet from the shore near the overlook. The Clark County Medical examiner’s office was then contacted.
Identification of Thomas was confirmed via identification Thomas had on his person and photographs of Thomas which were provided by the La Crosse Police Department. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office will continue their investigation.
The Lake Mead National Recreation Area Park Rangers and Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office are currently investigating the death of Thomas.
What a sad sad loss of a wonderful wonderful man.
