On May 9th 2017, La Crosse Police along with First Responders and Dive Rescue were dispatched to the area of Houska Park for a subject that was in the Mississippi River and calling out for help, according to a witness who was on land. An extensive search for this individual was conducted over the past week, with the La Crosse Police attempting to identify this individual. Through the investigation, police concluded that the individual observed in the river on May 9th was likely David Reckase, 29 of La Crosse.
On 05/18/2017 at approximately 5:30pm, a male individual was recovered from the Mississippi River by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office between Reno, Minnesota and New Albin, Iowa. This individual has been identified as David Reckase.
Based on information obtained by the La Crosse Police Department during the investigation, it appears that David Reckase willingly entered the river on 05/09/2017, and no foul play is suspected in this incident.
