Police Week Events – May 15th

Each year, law enforcement agencies throughout the United States participate in National Police Week.  As a tribute to fallen officers and their families, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day.  The week in which May 15th falls is known as Police Week.

This year, Police Week will occur May 11th – 17th, with two special events held locally on Thursday, May 15th:

  • At 10:00AM, the West Salem Police Department will host the Police Memorial Day Ceremony in Village Park at 121 S. Mill Street, West Salem, WI.
  • At 7:00PM, the La Crosse Police Department will host the 15th Annual Awards Recognition Ceremony.  The ceremony will take place at the Black River Beach Neighborhood Center at 1433 Rose Street, La Crosse, WI 54603.

The purpose of the Awards Recognition Program is to, “properly recognize, through tangible and public recognition, acts of heroism, outstanding service, or exemplary performances by the officers of the La Crosse Police Department, as well as contributions by involved citizens.”

The following individuals will be awarded:

  • Brian C. Christensen – Citizen Award of Excellence
  • Dr. Tom Thompson, DVM – Citizen Award of Excellence
  • Elijah Goldstein – Citizen Merit Award
  • Frank Segura – Citizen Merit Award
  • Gary Jahr – Citizen Merit Award
  • John Tellier – Citizen Merit Award
  • Pat Dovenberg – Citizen Merit Award
  • Officer Nate Poke – Traffic Safety Award
  • Officer Andrew Tolvstad – Superior Achievement Award
  • Officer Brooke Privet – Life Preservation Award
