High Visibility OWI Traffic Enforcement

On Friday, February 13th, the La Crosse Police Department, along with other agencies in La Crosse County, will be deploying extra officers as part of the La Crosse County Traffic Safety Task Force initiative. The officers will be looking for OWI, Speed, Seatbelt, and other traffic safety violations.

From June through December 2014, the La Crosse County Traffic Safety Task Force deployed seven times.  Law Enforcement issued 53 citations for safety belt violations, 58 citations for speeding violations, 14 operating while intoxicated (OWI) violations, 15 operating after revocation or suspension (OAR/OAS) violations, 114 vehicle equipment violations, and 111 other violations for a total of 187 citations and 254 warnings.  The most recent deployment, January 17th, resulted in 49 citations and 89 warnings.

The goals for these grants are to improve safety, reduce traffic-related injuries or death, and to gain voluntary compliance with existing laws.
