La Crosse Police arrested a pair of repeat drug dealers yesterday afternoon. Brandon J. Smith (12/31/1983) of Onalaska and Jordan M. Hammel (09/11/1991) of La Crosse were taken into custody in the area of 1900 Kane St. after a brief foot chase with each.
Neighborhood Resource Officers were working in the area 2100 Kane St. on a suspicious activity complaint when they observed a vehicle driven by Brandon Smith make an abrupt change of direction upon seeing the police squad car. The officers attempted to follow the vehicle which immediately pulled over. Both the driver and the passenger exited the vehicle, fleeing on foot at which time the officers took chase. Ultimately Smith and Hammel were apprehend without further incident.
The K9 team of Officer Bowe and Zaback were deployed to the abandoned vehicle. K9 Zaback did alert on the vehicle and the subsequent search located a loaded stolen hand gun under the driver’s seat and 11oz of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $30300.00 in the backseat. Police also located $1763.00 cash on Smith at the time of his arrest. When interviewed, Smith admitted the drugs and gun were his.
Brandon J. Smith was charged with:
- Possession with the Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of Stolen Property
- Resist/Obstruct an Officer
- Probation/Parole Warrant
Jordan M. Hammel was charged with:
- Party to the Crime – Possession with the Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine
- Probation/Parole Warrant
Both Smith and Hammel have had significant drug charges in their past within La Crosse County. Smith over the past 10 years has been arrested 4 times for “Possession with the Intent to Deliver” of various drugs. Hammel has been arrest 3 times in 2016 alone for “Possession with the Intent to Deliver” of various drugs and 2 weapons charges
