On January 26th at 5:22 PM, the La Crosse Police Department was dispatched to a welfare check at 2608 Farnam Street in La Crosse. The caller told law enforcement she found the subject unresponsive when she arrived home. The subject was later identified as Louis W. Steele (DOB 9-10-84). The caller stated, upon making contact with Steele, that he began arguing with her and made comments of self-harm. During the altercation, Louis had a knife in his hand, however no one was injured. When the altercation began, the caller and a six-year-old child were in the house. They were both safely removed.
When police arrived, they attempted to speak with Louis, but he barricaded himself inside the house and was not cooperating with police commands. The La Crosse Police Department Emergency Response Team was called to assist in the incident. They attempted numerous tactics to communicate with Lewis, but none of these were successful.
The Emergency Response Team received a warrant and then made entry into the home, and Louis was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to a local hospital to be medically evaluated. There are possible domestic-related charges upon clearance from the hospital.
