Armed Robbery: One in custody – Police need public’s help locating another.

La Crosse Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a second suspect from an armed robbery.

On March 1st La Crosse Police were called to 1426 Liberty St. for a report of an armed robbery.  The victim, Bradley Hayden of Necedah, said that he came to La Crosse with his girlfriend Jessica Harmon.  While in La Crosse they went to 917 Island St. where Hayden met a male who he did not know – later identified by police as Chad A. Kowalke 01-16-1975 .  Hayden and Kowalke decided they were going to buy some marijuana from a friend of Kowalke’s – later identified by police as James D. Vinson 02-02-1986 .

According to Hayden, he and Kowalke were picked up at 917 Island St by Vinson and another unknown male.  They drove to 1426 Liberty St. where Hayden thought they were going to get the marijuana.  All of them went to a bedroom within the residence which is when Hayden was attacked.  Vinson struck Hayden in the back of the head with what he thought was a baseball bat and told him to give him all his money while Kowalke took money from his coat pocket.  At that time everyone ran out of the residence and the police were called.

Hayden reported having $450.00 stolen as part of the incident and did sustain a head injury from the incident that required 6 staples to close.  He was treated and released from a local hospital.

Last night James D. Vinson was taken into custody by the Onalaska Police Department and charged with Armed Robbery, Substantial Battery, and Disorderly Conduct for his part in this incident.

La Crosse Police are still looking for Chad A. Kowalke for his part of this incident.  Kowalke is known to be in the La Crosse area, however does not have a current address.  If you have any information about Kowalke’s location, contact the police department at 608-785-5962.
