The La Crosse Police have arrested one individual and continue to investigate a home invasion robbery complaint.
Police were dispatched to 607 5th Ave South at 1:55 am after several calls to dispatch indicating multiple suspects walked into the residences with shotguns. The suspects demanded money and took property as they left the residence.
Officers flooded the immediate area and responded to the residence. Officers at the residence were informed several males entered with weapons that appeared to be hand guns and shotguns. The suspects rushed into the residence and ordered everyone down on the ground. One victims was struck in the head by one of the suspects, however did not sustain serious injuries. Witnesses in the residences gave descriptions of several suspects which had their faces covered, however the numbers of suspects was inconsistent. No one else was injured as part of the incident.
Officers in the immediate area were able to make contact with Mykel L. Carpenter (DOB 09/05/1997) of Winona at 7th and Ferry Streets. Carpenter matched the description provided by the victims, was found to be in possession of a black handkerchief and ultimately taken into custody. Police tracked Carpenter’s path back to the victims’ residence and a mask and some stolen property was located along the way. Carpenter was charged with armed robbery, criminal damage to property, and criminal trespass.
