After a month long investigation La Crosse Police Investigators developed information that Megan McCarthy was selling drugs from 1016 Jackson St. #3. Last night at approximately 9:20 pm La Crosse Police Investigators and the Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant on that residence. Upon entering the residence Megan McCarthy and Dedrick Portis were taken into custody.
A search of the residence netted 8.4 grams of heroin; 0.7 grams of methamphetamine; several prescription drugs and a Taser. The estimated street value of the heroin is over $4000.00. Additionally, investigators estimate that there were well over 100 used needles strewn throughout the residence that they removed and safely disposed of. Unfortunately, during the search, one of our officers did get stuck by a used needle while picking up another item. The officer was treated and now has to follow a protocol to address the possible exposure to diseases and materials the needle may have contained.
