On August 3rd at 3:05 pm La Crosse Police were dispatched to 317 9th St. South for a domestic disturbance complaint. Dispatch advised the responding officers that Allen C. Kruk (DOB 12-04-1984 of La Crosse) was the ex-husband of the complainant and was at the back door of the residence. Additionally, dispatch advised responding officers that Mr. Kruk had an active felony warrant for his arrest.
One of the arriving officers made contact with Mr. Kruk at the rear of the residence at which time Mr. Kruk pulled out a hand gun. The officer drew his sidearm and the two exchanged gun fire. The officer was struck by one round in the chest area which was stopped by the officer’s ballistic vest. The suspect was struck multiple times by the officer’s return fire. The officer was transported by TriState Ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated and released for injuries associated with being struck by the suspects gun fire. The suspect was also transported by TriState Ambulance to a local hospital where he is currently being treated for injuries associated with the incident. There is no additional information on his condition at this time.
As part of the La Crosse Police Department’s “Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol” an outside agency is required to investigate officer involved shootings. For this incident the Division of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of the Wisconsin Department of Justice will be the lead investigative agency and filing a full report with the La Crosse County District Attorney’s Office. The La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office will also be assisting with the investigation. Additionally, as part of standard protocol, the involved officer will be placed on administrative leave pending the outside agency investigation of the shooting.
